"I will be your standing stone" ~ music for floods
three songs to lift you today & mutual aid for Texas
Dear Friends,
Here are three songs for holding the heart. I’ve been listening to them and singing along, and it’s helping.
I will be your standing stone; I will stand by you:
You do not carry this all alone:
I recommend a good long breaking:
Please share this post with anyone who could enjoy these songs.
The personal and the collective grief seems all so braided now that I fall wordless. Being able to sing along with a song opens my chest up.
Here in Central Texas, we are full of the sorrow of water. Aware of the power and peace of water. Heavy for loss of life in the force of water. Holding deepest sympathy for the 80+ people, many of them little ones, swept up in the Guadalupe River, and their loved ones. The rains were otherworldly. The water came up to the edge of my elevated back porch pottery kiln. The Guadalupe River rose 15 feet in 15 minutes, then rose to 26 feet in 45 minutes. The creeks were deafening. Water is bigger than all of us.
I'm collecting pet food and carriers for Kerrville Pets Alive! via porch drop-off in North Austin. Kerrville Pets Alive! is taking in pets lost in the floods and fostering the pets of people in the disaster shelter. They are doing pet rescue and recovery. They are coordinating pet-human reconnections and funding the cremation of pets who did not survive. It’s an all-volunteer effort.
They are accepting donations by Venmo at @kerrvillepetsalive (under Charities).
Holy work.
Take good care of yourself. Sing along. Thank you for reading.

Abriel
Thank you Abe. And I’m so sorry, beyond my words.
